The Security settings page contains important security configurations for your Hubhus account. One key feature is the ability to manage trusted IP addresses, which allows you to specify which IP addresses or IP ranges can access your account with less strict authorization requirements.

Accessing Security settings

Go to Account → Security settings. This page contains various security-related configurations, including trusted IP addresses and two-factor authentication settings.

What are trusted IP addresses

Trusted IP addresses are specific IPs or IP ranges that you designate as safe for accessing Hubhus. Login from these IP addresses may have less strict authorization requirements, making access easier for users connecting from trusted locations like office networks.

Understanding less strict authorization

The system notes that "Login from these IP addresses may have less strict authorization requirements." This means users connecting from trusted IPs might experience:

  • Simplified login processes
  • Reduced security prompts
  • Faster access to the system

However, basic authentication (username and password) is still required.

Checking your current IP

The Security settings page displays your current IP address and indicates whether you are connecting from a trusted IP. This helps you verify your network configuration and ensures you don't accidentally lock yourself out when configuring IP restrictions.

Viewing existing trusted IPs

In the Trusted IP addresses/ranges section, you can see a table showing:

  • Name: The friendly identifier assigned to each IP
  • IP address: The actual IP or range
  • Edit and Remove buttons for managing each entry

Adding a new trusted IP address

Click the New trusted IP button to open the configuration dialog. You will need to provide:

  • Friendly name: An identifier for the IP (e.g., "Office", "Home", "Vesterbrogade")
  • IP or IPv4-range: The actual IP address or range to trust

IP address formats

Hubhus supports multiple IP address formats:

Single IP address:

  • 123.123.1.10

IP range with start and end:

  • 123.123.1.10-20 (covers IPs from .10 to .20)

Wildcard for all IPs in subnet:

  • 123.123.1.* (covers all IPs from .0 to .255)

The system provides these examples in the dialog to help you format your entries correctly. You can also click "Insert: Your IP" to automatically insert your current IP address.

Managing existing trusted IPs

For each entry in the trusted IP table, you can:

  • Edit: Click the yellow Edit button to modify the name or IP address
  • Remove: Click the red Remove button to delete the trusted IP

Be careful when removing IPs, as this could affect users who rely on those networks for access.

When to use trusted IPs

Trusted IP addresses are useful for:

  • Office networks with static IPs
  • VPN exit points
  • Remote locations with fixed IPs
  • Partner organizations that need regular access

This simplifies access for users in these locations while maintaining security for connections from unknown IPs.

Other security settings

The Security settings page also contains configuration for Default two-factor authentication (2FA) settings. For detailed information about 2FA configuration, see the separate article "Setting up two-factor authentication (2FA)".

Security best practices

When configuring trusted IPs:

  • Only add IPs you fully control and trust
  • Use specific IP addresses rather than broad ranges when possible
  • Regularly review and remove outdated entries
  • Combine with two-factor authentication for additional security
  • Monitor login activity from trusted IPs
  • Document why each IP is trusted (use descriptive friendly names)

Remember that dynamic IP addresses (common with home internet) can change, so trusted IP configurations work best with static IPs or VPN solutions.

Summary

Security settings provide centralized access to important security configurations. The trusted IP addresses feature allows you to designate specific IPs or IP ranges as safe for accessing Hubhus with less strict authorization. Add trusted IPs with friendly names using single addresses, ranges, or wildcards, manage the list by editing or removing entries, and combine with two-factor authentication for comprehensive security. Access these settings through Account → Security settings.
